Across the 30 cities tracked for full-stack engineer roles, the highest senior median sits in San Francisco ($274,000) and the lowest in Sao Paulo ($37,620). All figures are converted to USD at the rates noted in the methodology, so they are directly comparable; switch the display currency above to read them another way.
In USD terms the senior median spans about 628% from the lowest to the highest market, from $37,620 in Sao Paulo to $274,000 in San Francisco. Local tech-employer density and cost of living both feed that gap.
Two structural factors drive most of the variation: the local tech-pay level, which reflects how much the pool of employers in a city pays for the skill set, and whether senior figures are reported as total compensation. Markets where senior pay folds in bonus and equity show higher nominal medians than markets reported on base salary alone.
Median steps between tiers, shown for San Francisco as a single-currency example. The same documented multipliers (junior 0.65x, mid 1.00x, senior 1.45x, staff 2.05x) apply in every city, so the shape of the ladder is consistent even where the absolute numbers differ.

Each city median for full-stack engineer roles starts from an occupation-specific mid-level anchor, scales by the documented seniority multipliers, and is then adjusted to the local tech-pay level. Percentiles (10th, 25th, 75th, 90th) are fitted from the median using the dispersion the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports for software occupations. Cost-of-living indices blend Numbeo 2025 and Mercer 2025. Senior and staff tiers are reported as total compensation in markets where verified equity and bonus data exist. Cross-city figures are shown in USD by default, converted from each market's local currency at approximate mid-market rates as of 2025-06; the currency switcher re-displays them without changing the underlying data.
